Obama's Lowlights (8/13/10)

Economy – The growth of the economy slowed to 2.4% during the second quarter. This is down from 3.7% in the first quarter. The trade deficit has reached a high level indicating that growth is slowing. Another alarming sign is that jobless claims are on the rise again.

Afghanistan – July was the deadliest month for U.S. soldiers. Sixty-Six soldiers lost their lives.

Illegal Immigration – An internal White House document was released hinting that the administration would issue an executive order granting amnesty to all illegal aliens. This would circumvent the legislative branch’s duties to create the laws of the land.

General Motors – Obama has been claiming the 50 billion dollars of taxpayer money spent to bailout the auto companies has been a success. He was even pointing to the Chrysler Volt (electric car) as evidence of American ingenuity. However, the Volt is expensive – 41,000 dollars. A similar car built using a fossil fuel engine would sell for well under 20,000 dollars. In other news, GM has started to hand out political donations. Most of the 41,000 dollars they have handed out went to the Congressional Black Caucus.

JounaList – This was a group of left wing journalist that recently broke up. About 400 emails leaked from the group entail how it was the job of these journalists to protect Obama so he would get elected. When Reverend Wright surfaced, the group wanted to deflect the story by calling Fox News or conservative journalists as racists. However, it should be pointed that only 400 of about 25 thousand (1.5%) emails were leaked. Remember, there is always going to be a fringe element in every organization or group.

Rangel and Waters – Both Congressman Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters face ethic charges and it has some on Capital Hill crying foul since both are African-American. Obviously, this must be a racial issue and not a coincidence in the eyes of progressives.

ObamaCare – A federal court in Virginia denied the Obama’s administration attempt to dismiss a challenge by the Virginia Attorney General that the mandates in the legislation are unconstitutional. In a referendum ballot issue Missouri residents overwhelming voted against having the government force a mandate on them to purchase healthcare insurance.

Iraq – Obama will start to withdraw troops from Iraq at the end of the month. Time will tell if the violence remains low and if the Iraq army can maintain security.

Today Show – The morning program ran a piece blaming car companies for toddlers left in hot cars. And what’s worse this group is demanding further government regulation to prevent this from happening. Is government the answer to all our problems since they feel citizens are too stupid?

Gulf Oil Spill – BP is reporting that the leak is officially plugged with cement. Other reports indicate that 75% of the oil that leaked from the well is gone: either cleaned up, evaporated, or ate by microbes. In other news, the Obama moratorium on deep water drilling could cost the economy 12,000 jobs and 2.8 billion in revenues.

The Stimulus – Latest estimates put the cost of the Recovery Act at 862 billion dollars, but there have been studies that the long term cost of the bill, including interest, could top 3 trillion dollars.

Oregon – Officials shut down a 7 year old girl’s lemonade stand because she did not have a food license and threatened to fine her.
