Obama's Lowlights (1/9/10)

Cap and Trade – Moderate Democratic congressional leaders are leaning towards placing the carbon debate as a low priority. This may not be what the White House wants, but they understand this is an election year and if health care reform has not already cost them their jobs, cap and trade legislation certainly will. This is good news for the American public. But do not be surprised if the Obama administration bypasses Congress and has the EPA enact legislation (a violation of the Constitution).

Flight 253 – Obama has certainly taken a laid back and nonchalant approach to the attempted terror attack on a U.S. airliner. Nobody wants to have their vacation ruined, but the man is President and should be on call 24/7, especially when it comes to protecting our homeland. It is also becoming more and more disturbing that this administration continues to blame Bush for any shortcomings in their policies. In fact, Umar Abdulmutallab’s father turned over incriminating information about his son to the U.S. embassy in Nigeria just 8 weeks ago. Thus, the failure to escalate Abdulmutallab’s information in the system is a failure of the Obama administration. And Obama’s lack of any response only displays his naivety, submissiveness, and general weak stance on terror. What’s worse is that the White House was warned of heightened security risks over the holiday and Obama refused to raise the security warning system. Meanwhile, Abdulmutallab received his Miranda rights and got a lawyer. Not only is Abdulmutallab not talking, there are rumors he is considering plea bargains. How is that for being soft on terror!

Early Census Look – Many prognosticators predict that Texas will gain four seats, while Florida, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona will each gain one seat. Meanwhile, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Michigan will lose one seat each and Ohio will lose 2 seats. Based on the 2008 election this would be a net gain of 12 electoral votes for the Republicans. For the first time since 1850, California will not gain at least one seat. It is not surprising that people are fleeing liberal run states to conservative states. After all, liberal policies have led to higher taxes and unemployment and therefore, have forced people to flee these states.

INTERPOL – Obama issued an executive order granting INTERPOL immunity from American Laws. INTERPOL is the international police organization run by the United Nations. Any Americans arrested by INTERPOL will also have fewer rights to receive information and documents about their case. This is obviously a strange and peculiar action from our Commander-In-Chief that is giving terrorists more rights, but at the same time is denying Americans legal rights. The other aspect to this strange action is that it would allow INTERPOL the ability to go after Bush administration personnel over enhanced interrogation techniques.

Yemen – Umar Abdulmutallab was trained by al-Qaeda in Yemen. Eighty of the remaining Guantanamo detainees are from or have ties to Yemen. Yemen is becoming the latest training ground for terrorists. Therefore, it makes little sense to release any of these enemy combatants in Guantanamo so they can go back to Yemen. Hopefully, Obama will agree. In any event, things have gotten so bad in Yemen the U.S. has closed its embassy.

Iraq – For the first time since the war started, not one serviceman was killed. Obama will certainly take the credit for this feat, but it was Bush’s strategy that Obama failed to support that earned this result.

Afghanistan – A breach in security at a U.S. base lead to suicide bomber killing 7 CIA members. Security breaches seem to be a commonality under Obama’s soft leadership on terror.
