Obama's Lowlights (6/4/10)

Unions – Unions will be pouring hundreds of millions into the 2010 midterm elections to protect Democrat incumbents. The AFL-CIO will contribute more than 100 million, AFSCME will contribute 50 million, and the SEIU union will contribute 44 million. This does not include powerful teachers unions. Also, Congress is trying to pass a 165 million dollar bailout to save union pensions. And what’s worse, this may be the first installment of many to keep up with union retirement pensions. Did the government bailout Enron employees that lost their pensions? No.

Fannie Mae – The government run financial giant is one of leading culprits of the housing collapse and in the process it cost the American taxpayers billions of dollars in bailouts. Now, the financial giant is looking into a new scheme to make money called “residential cap and trade”.

SCOTUS – If Elena Kagan is confirmed, it will diversify the Supreme Court into a membership that includes no Protestants whose education is solely from the Ivey League.

Islam – There are plans to build a massive new mosque just 2 blocks from ground zero, the site of the 9/11 attacks in NYC. Obviously there is a big push back from local politicians and regular citizens to prevent this from happening.

The House – This past week the House worked on the 200 billion dollar doctor fix and extending unemployment and entitlement benefits. And all of this will be paid for by taxing the “carried interest” made by money managers who make sound investment decisions.

Joe Sestak – The Democratic candidate for the Pennsylvania Senate seat admits that the White House tried to bribe him. They offered him a White House job if he dropped out of the race and let Arlen Specter win the nomination. However, the White House account is very different. So which is it and who is lying? I seriously doubt that there will be any investigation into this quid pro quo allegation that seems to happen regularly in politics.

National Security – The Obama administration continues to release, once classified, information such as satellite launches and missile tests to the public.

Transparency – Obama finally held a press conference after nearly a year of avoiding the media. Unfortunately for Obama, the conference did not go well since he claimed full responsibility to the oil spill which is still spewing millions of gallons into the Gulf of Mexico.

Partisanship – Obama admits during a closed door meeting with Republicans that he is acting in a partisan way because he is getting pressure from the left. Now isn’t this a big and surprising admission?

Oil – Congress is going to raise the tax on oil from 8 cents a barrel to 32 cents a barrel to help pay for the Gulf clean up. This is fair since we are all culpable in this accident whether we think so or not. As far as the oil spill is concerned it is amazing how Obama chastise BP, Transocean, and Halliburton for playing the blame game, but the Obama administration is playing the same blame game. His administration has blamed Bush for lax oversight for causing the disaster.

Supreme Court – Last year SCOTUS ruled that corporations, unions, and government contractors should not be limited in their campaign contributions. Well, this did not sit well with Democrats who are in the process of writing legislation to change the ruling. However, their law will only restrict contributions from corporations and not from liberally run unions and government contractors.

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell – The House voted to end the policy on gay’s serving in the military. This liberal agenda push is an effort to regain the trust of the gay community that has been very disappointed with the administrations lack of action to help their cause. Liberals do not care if this comes at the expense of troop morale as they fight to protect our freedoms.
