Obama's Lowlights (1/30/10)

State of the Union – Is Obama moving to the center? During the State of the Union Address, Obama preached fiscal responsibility and a freeze on federal spending. This was a campaign pledge from John McCain that Obama scoffed at. We have all seen this before, during his campaign Obama ran as centrist. However, if Obama does not hold true to his comments, the American public will not be fooled this time around. However, the rest of the Obama address was the same as his speech to Congress just after his election. It seems his 2nd year agenda is the same as the first year agenda. So Americans can expect much of the same, and not a move towards the center.

Fox News – Dan Pheiffer is Anita Dunn’s replacement as the White House communications director. It may be a new person in charge, but the message has not changed. Remember, Dunn attacked Fox News claiming they are not a news station, as it turns out this is the same philosophy of Dan Pheiffer.

Massachusetts election – Apparently the Democrats pulled out all the stops to win this election including handing out fraudulent absentee ballots and placing misleading phone calls to constituents.

Erroll Southers – He has withdrawn his name from being the head of the Travel Security Agency (TSA) after many concerns about ethical violations in his past arose.

Terrorism – During Senate hearings with intelligence agencies it was revealed that the “Underwear” bomber was only questioned about items that could convict him in a federal court, but not about items that would pertain to national security. This is absolutely absurd that our intelligence agencies would not only shy away from questions about national security, but not even be called in to ask the questions. In fact, Abdulmutallab was only questioned by ordinary police enforcement and not our intelligence agencies. Obama and his policies are not making us safer.

Supreme Court – They ruled along party lines to reverse a roll back campaign spending limits, which drew criticism from Obama and the left. Citing freedom of speech, the Supreme Court said that corporations and groups could contribute to campaigns without spending limits.

The Pentagon – It released its report on the Fort Hood massacre. It was an 80 page disgrace that dismissed the attack as not a terrorist, but just an angry worker. This type of denial is not making the United States safer.

Air America – After trying to compete against Conservative talk radio for 5 years, liberal Air America is officially closing its doors. This result may help rejuvenate liberals call for the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine.

The National Debt – The Senate has voted to raise the national debt ceiling has been raised by another 1.9 trillion dollars to 14.3 trillion dollars!

The Economy – Grew at 5.7% this past quarter which may be the best news of the Obama presidency. How much of this is artificial due to one time stimulus deals and how much is real still needs to be determined. Time will tell.

Guantanamo – Obama’s one year deadline to close Guantanamo has come and gone.

Obama’s Weekly Lowlights

Unions – An interesting piece in the New York Times stated that there are more government workers in unions than in the private sector. While union workers have steadily decreased to 7.2% of the work force in the private sector, union membership has increased to 37.5% for government workers. Of course, during this current recession, the only sector that has been gaining jobs has been the government sector. Union membership for the Post Office is a big reason why they are struggling to remain profitable.

Inflation – The consumer price index, which is used to measure inflation, rose to 2.7% for 2009 compared to just 0.1% for 2008. Inflation will get much worse in the future with Obama flooding the economy with stimulus money. Remember the Democrats are proposing a second stimulus.

Marion Berry – Berry has represented the Arkansas 1st district for over the past decade, but the Democrat will not seek reelection. Berry is the 6th House Democrat to retire in the past 2 months because they see the writing on the wall.

The Recovery Act – This stimulus originally cost the taxpayers 787 billion dollars; however the CBO has updated this figure to 862 billion dollars.

Ford – For the first time in four years Ford recorded a profit and they expect to be profitable in 2010. Meanwhile, Chrysler and General Motors continue to struggle despite going into bankruptcy and receiving billions in taxpayer bailouts.

Politics – Obama is now pleading and urging Republicans to work with the Democrats on important issues. Now that Obama no longer has a filibuster proof majority he wants Republican’s cooperation. Considering how liberals worked legislation behind closed doors and ignored conservative inputs this past year, it remains to be seen if Republicans will let bygones be bygones. Obama was an idiot to think that he could play partisan politics, and use his majorities for a government power grab, without thinking reality would set in amongst the American public.

KSM Trial – The trial for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Muhammad in New York City is receiving major bipartisan opposition. Congress is looking to block funding for this trial meanwhile; New York City representatives and the mayor are now on board opposing the trial. Obama is already distancing himself from the Department of Justice, who made this puzzling decision, and asking them to find a new venue.

ObamaCare – Despite public opposition, it is not dead, the liberals will pull out all the stops to get this controversial legislation passed.
