Obama's Lowlights (10/29/10)

ObamaCare – Every week we learn something new, which is unfortunately bad, about the legislation. Earlier this year many insurance companies dropped their children insurance plans because under ObamaCare parents can purchase plans after their children get sick. And those insurers that still offer these plans are going to charge much higher premium rates. In other news, a Federal judge has ruled that the lawsuits against this legislation may proceed. Meanwhile, Boeing is the latest U.S. Corporation that is saying the new law will force them to deny coverage to 90,000 workers.

Election Strategy – With Republican Marco Rubio building a comfortable lead for the Florida Senate race, the Republican National Committee is pulling money from the Florida race and injecting it into other close races in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Nevada.

Election Trends – The Democrats have a lot of money and polling trends in traditional liberal states is starting to move in the Democrats favor. California, Washington, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, and Illinois polls show Democrats leading most major races or are within the margin of error. Without a few Republican wins in these states the Senate is out of reach and 30 Republican governorships may be denied. All that said, things may be worse than anyone ever suspected for Democrats this November since there are polls indicating that even Ohio representative Dennis Kucinich may be trouble. Another sign against Democrats is that Republicans are turning out in disproportionate numbers in early voting in states like New Mexico, Florida, and Nevada.

Illegal Immigration – Apparently the Ninth Circuit Court is going to allow a dozen Latin American nations to join the U.S. federal government suit against the Arizona immigration law. How exactly can Latin American countries influence U.S. immigration and security laws?

The Federal Deficit – The federal deficit is expected to grow by about 1.4 trillion dollars next year or about 10% of GDP.

Foreclosures – Over 100,000 homes went into foreclosure in September.

Medicare – An organized crime family responsible for 160 million dollars in fraud was shut down in New York this past week.

The Obama Spotlight – Obama has been on many shows since coming into office (unlike any other President). He recently made a mockery of the office on John Stewart’s program and the latest rumor is that he will be on an episode of Discovery Channel’s Myth Busters. Does this man have any shame? At the same time Obama is criticizing ALL Americans by saying we cannot think straight and follow facts and science when we are scared. Really? What does Obama know about science?

Bank of America – They reported a 7.3 billion dollar loss this past quarter mostly due to new regulations from the recently passed financial reform legislation.

The Stimulus – The government sent out 89,000 checks worth 250 dollars to deceased or incarcerated individuals.

Entitlements – According to the CBO over the next decade the cost for the big three (Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare) will go up nearly 90%.
