Obama's Lowlights (10/15/10)

Economy – The economy shed 159,000 government jobs, created 64,000 private sector jobs for a net loss of 95,000 jobs in September. The unemployment rate remained at 9.6%. Things continue to look dismal on the jobs front.
Obama and the Democrats – How bad has it gotten for Obama trying to rally his base for this election cycle? He has been invoking slavery into his message! This is desperation from the man that is supposed to transcend race.

ObamaCare – The news continues to get worse about this awful legislation. The Associate Press is indeed confirming doctor shortages and some major insurance companies are considering getting out of the health insurance business all together. This may sound bad, but it is unfortunately working just as the Democrats had hoped so they could eventually get all Americans on a government run Medicaid plan. A recent poll found that one in four Democrats want a complete repeal of this healthcare law.

Democrats – They held a rally in Washington D.C. this past week to rally its base. Unfortunately, the number of people that showed up paled in comparison to those who showed up for Beck’s rally (Restoring Honor) a few weeks earlier.

Congress – They are officially on a 6 week election recess. The good news is that they are not around to do more damage to our economy; the bad news is that this campaign season has been the ugliest on record.

Banks – Since the financial crisis began two years ago, 279 U.S. banks have failed and many more are expected to fail in the future.

Stuxnet – Stuxnet is a sophisticated computer virus that many believe that the U.S. and Israel are using to attack nuclear facilities in Iran to slow their progress towards obtaining a nuclear bomb.

Foreclosures – A few mortgage giants, including GMAC, have stopped foreclosure proceedings in many states. The reason for this is due to improper documentation. There have been so many foreclosures that mortgage companies have failed to keep accurate and up to date records.

Internet – The government is working to gain more access to internet information for national security reasons. This would be similar to the government’s access to phone conservations (FISA). I am for anything that keeps us safe.

Elena Kagan – The new Supreme Court Justice is officially hearing cases, but she will have to recuse herself from 50% of the cases this year because she was involved in these cases as the Solicitor General.

Illinois – Like our federal government, the Illinois state government has been attempting to sell bonds to foreign countries to help pay for billions of dollars in debt the state has accumulated.

White House – Solar panels will once again be installed on the White House roof. Environmentalists are screaming for climate legislation and Obama is trying to appease them with this small gesture.
