Obama's Lowlights (7/30/10)

Economy – One in four Americans has a credit score that would be classified as poor. It seems that the housing market collapse affected the well to do more than the middle class. One in seven homes defaulted on was priced at a million or more, whereas only one in twelve cheaper homes were foreclosed. Also, the Toxic Asset Relief Program (TARP), which bailed out banks and individuals foreclosing on their homes, has come to an end. In other news, to illustrate how the stimulus has provided only an artificial recovery to the economy look at cash for clunkers and the bonus for first time home owners. Once these programs ended, car and home sales plunged. In fact, home sales are currently at their lowest level. Finally, if anyone wants to know one reason why California is in deep financial trouble, the LA Times has revealed that some town managers are making nearly a million dollars per year.

Sheila Jackson-Lee – The Texas Democratic Congresswomen was found on YouTube preaching her historical ignorance and racist beliefs. She claimed the U.S. won the Vietnam War and congratulated the NAACP for condemning the Tea Party as racists.

Bubble – What is going to be the next financial bubble to collapse? It could be the bonds held by cities, localities, and states. Many states and communities are struggling to keep their budgets in the black.

Health Food Czar – The Obama’s personal chef has been promoted to a chief advisor over health food. Does the insanity ever end?

Joe Biden – He was fined 219K by the Federal Election Commission for violations during the 2008 election. He also stated that “Americans are not smart enough to fully comprehend Obama’s accomplishments”. Biden is the gift that just keeps on giving.

ObamaCare – The Obama administration is now saying the mandates in his healthcare reform legislation are taxes. This will be a tax on millions of Americans earning fewer than 200 thousand per year breaking a campaign promise. This is how the DOJ will defend the mandates in ObamaCare against the states that are suing the Constitutionality of the new law.

Vacation – While Obama asks Americans to vacation in the Gulf region to help devastated business hurt by the oil spill, the Obama’s headed to Maine for their vacation.

National Security – Are our intelligence agencies becoming too big and disorganized? There are dozens of buildings dedicated to the effort with nearly 1 million people and nearly 2000 government and another 2000 private agencies working on our security. All these barriers make it nearly impossible to share intelligence to work together to thwart terrorism.

Apple Iphone – Senator Chuck Schumer from New York is not happy with his new Iphone service and he has gone public about it pressuring Apple to fix the problem. Does Schumer understand that these actions only create more problems that make solving the problem harder?

Department of Agriculture – Shirley Sherrod, the head of the rural division, was fired after she was caught on air saying she favored giving benefits to blacks over whites. However, she was merely telling a story 25 years ago that opened her eyes. She should not have been fired. At the same time her rants against Fox News are unwarranted.

Osama Bin Laden – About 20 members of his family are seeking asylum in the United States from Iran.

Immigration – An Arizona Federal judge placed an injunction on all the critical provisions of the Arizona immigration law. Let the appeals begin.

Charlie Rangel – The embattled NY Congressman is facing 13 charges from the Senate ethics committee for his failure to pay taxes. Rangel may try to reach a deal so he will avoid a trial over his wrongdoings.
