Obama's Lowlights (12/10/10)

North Korea – As the situation deteriorates and tensions increase between the North and South, China has failed to condemn the North Korean aggression.

Border Security – Over the past month two tunnels from Tijuana to San Diego have been uncovered. The sophisticated tunnels were used to mostly smuggle marijuana into the United States. So, please explain to me again why this administration has a problem with state authorities enforcing federal immigration laws?

TSA Screening – The pat downs and full body scans do not bother me as much as the long wait times getting through security. I am all for doing everything necessary to make us safe, but we should be smart about it. This means doing a better job profiling and understanding the passengers. We should learn from Israel.

Terrorism – Another terrorist plot was foiled when a Somalia born teenager was busted for planning to bomb the crowd at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, Oregon.

John Kerry – He rented out the Boston Symphony hall to have a party to celebrate, you guessed it - himself.

Wikileaks – The organization has released over a quarter million secret or confidential correspondences that paint the U.S. State Department in a negative light. It is possible the release of these documents can hurt U.S. relations with their allies. The documents were collected from 2003 until 2010. It is interesting that the liberal media, such as the NY Times, have covered the leak of these documents, but did not cover the “climate gate” email leaks. WikiLeaks owner Julian Assange was arrested in Britain and being held without bail for a sex crime.

UN Climate Change Committee – They are holding a conference in Cancun and conservative filmmakers were banned from attending.

Homeland Security – The organization has recommended dropping its color coded terror warning system that has been in existence for 8 years.

Federal Pay Freeze – Obama wants to institute a 2 year pay freeze on federal employees – this should have been done when he took office.

2010 Campaign Funding – The final numbers are in, including contributions by special interests and corporations, the Democrats raised 856 billion to 677 billion for the Republicans. So, remind me again, who was to benefit from the landmark Supreme Court decision in Citizens United?

GM – The good news is that GM went public and can now start to pay back part of the 50 billion in taxpayer bailouts. However, at this point in time, the United Auto Workers union is making out better than the taxpayers and the creditors that own the debt for GM.

Taxes – Republicans and Democrats brokered a deal. The Bush tax cuts will be extended 2 more years and the Republicans agreed to extending unemployment benefits another 13 months.

Debt Commission – The proposal to cut the deficit failed to receive the needed super majority from the commission.

Unemployment – Rose from 9.6 to 9.8% in November as a mere 39,000 jobs were created.

The Dream Act – This bill passed the House and allows certain illegal immigrants amnesty – including some with criminal records.
